6 issues in general with medium priority
Senior Services and Aging Policy
Arlington's senior population is booming, and experts say the county needs to drastically improve housing and support services right now. If you've got aging parents here or plan to grow old in the area yourself, expect big policy shifts coming soon.
Household Solid Waste Rate Increase
County leadership reported on rising costs and budget pressures associated with residential solid waste and curbside collection services, noting the issuance of a request for qualifications for contractors.
Retrocession
A Georgia politician is randomly trying to push Arlington and Alexandria back into Washington, D.C. Even though it's a long shot, it could completely upend local politics and strip 400,000 residents of their Virginia voting rights.
Congressional Redistricting
New state maps might split Arlington into two congressional districts, which could seriously weaken our political voice in Washington. It means our local issues might get lost in the shuffle of different congressional priorities.
Historical Displacement Apology
Arlington leaders officially apologized for past county decisions that displaced residents from the historic Queen City neighborhood. This marks a major step forward in local accountability for previous development harms.
Labor Contracts
Arlington County workers just locked down their very first union contracts, scoring better working conditions and formal representation. This is a huge shift for local government workers who finally get a real seat at the table.
